Urgent Crisis Resources Available 24/7

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: Call or Text 988 

The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Veterans Crisis Line is a free, anonymous, confidential resource available to anyone, even if they are not registered with the VA or enrolled in VA health care. You will be connected with a caring, qualified VA responder who is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

DuPage County Crisis Line: Call 630-627-1700

Countywide phone line for DuPage residents staffed by local counselors available to respond and provide support for those experiencing a mental health crisis.

Crisis Text Line: Text REACH to 741741

The Crisis Text Line is available 24/7 for any crisis. A live, trained Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds from a secure online platform. The volunteer Crisis Counselor will help you move from a hot moment to a cool moment.

The Trevor Project: Call 866-488-7386 or Text START to 678678

LGBTQ youth can speak confidentially with trained counselors via phone or text. The service is available 24/7 and is free of cost. The Trevor Project website has more resources and information.

Illinois Helpline for Opioids & Other Substances: 833-234-6343 or helplineil.org

Web and phone resources are available to support individuals with substance use disorders and their families to find local treatment and recovery services. Available 24/7, with staff available to speak in Spanish and interpretation services in any language.

NAMI DuPage, located in Wheaton, builds a path to recovery for people living with a mental illness by providing free and low-cost education, counseling, and support for individuals and their families, delivered by peers with lived experience. NAMI also has 'Navigating A Mental Health Crisis,' a guide available in English (English PDF) and Spanish (Spanish PDF).

Free, nationwide peer-support service providing information, resource referrals and support to people living with a mental health condition, their family members and caregivers, mental health providers and the public. Available Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm CT.

Illinois Call4Calm Text Line: Text TALK (English) or HABLAR (Spanish) to 552020

If you or a loved one are struggling with stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic and need emotional support, text TALK to 552020 for English or HABLAR for Spanish. This service is free and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. People seeking assistance will remain anonymous and provide only their first name and zip code. This enables the service to link you to a counselor in your area who is knowledgeable about available local resources and will respond to your text with a phone call within 24 hours.

Illinois Warm Line: 866-359-7953

If you or one of your family members has mental health and/or substance use challenges and would like to receive support by phone, call the Illinois Warm Line at 866-359-7953. Wellness Support Specialists are professionals who have experienced mental health and/or substance use recovery in their own lives. They are trained in recovery support, mentoring, and advocacy and are ready to listen and support you. The Warm Line is not a crisis hotline, but is a source of support as you recover or help a family member to recover. Available Monday – Saturday, 8:00 am – 8:00 pm CT.
