Additional Planning Efforts
The Village of Bensenville has undertaken several planning efforts over the years. Recently, plans have covered a range of topics- enhancing active transportation opportunities, accommodating the growth of housing in the coming years, economic strategies, as well as a previous comprehensive plan. They can be found below, along with additional details about the plans.
Bensenville was one of five municipalities selected to participate during 2021 in the “Aging in a Changing Region” program, run by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and Planning/Aging, funded by a grant from the RRF Foundation for Aging. The Recommendations primarily deal with Bensenville’s approach to and handling of its support for aging-in-community.
The 2016 Active Transportation plan seeks to enhance opportunities for a healthy, active lifestyle in Bensenville by promoting a network of streets and sidewalks that serve the needs of pedestrians and cyclists. Active transportation planning is vital in creating a healthier population and a more sustainable environment. View the complete streets policy here.
The previous Bensenville Comprehensive Plan, published in 2015, serves as the foundation of all current planning efforts. It examines the state of the Village at that time, and proposes policies to guide development, sustainability, and much more. The Bensenville Comprehensive Plan focused on preparing the community for the changes as a result of the O’Hare Modernization Program and the 2008 economic downturn. It was the Village’s first major plan since the 1980s.
The 2014 Homes for a Changing Region report addresses how to create a balanced mix of housing, serve current and future populations, and enhance livability. Done in conjunction with neighboring communities, it examines regional trends and applies them to Bensenville. It’s companion report, Aging in a Changing Region, can be accessed here.
